Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps taken by Man with Van Barkingside to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our business or among our suppliers.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Man with Van Barkingside provides local and regional transport, removals, and associated logistics services. Our primary operations involve our own staff and vehicles, with a limited but important network of suppliers and subcontractors who provide vehicles, fuel, equipment, storage facilities, workwear, and occasional labour support. We recognise that risks related to modern slavery can exist at multiple points in the transport and logistics sector, particularly in relation to labour, vehicle sourcing, and ancillary goods and services.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. This applies to all individuals working for or on behalf of Man with Van Barkingside, in any capacity. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation, contractor, or individual involved in such practices. Any identified breach of this policy is treated as a serious misconduct issue and may result in termination of contracts, cessation of business relationships, or referral to relevant authorities.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We expect our suppliers, subcontractors, and other business partners to uphold the same high standards. When entering into or renewing commercial relationships, we assess the nature of the goods and services supplied, the geographical context, and any known sector risks. Where our assessment identifies a higher risk of modern slavery, we may carry out additional due diligence, request evidence of the supplier's own anti-slavery measures, and undertake proportionate audits or spot checks.
Where appropriate, our standard terms require suppliers and subcontractors to comply with all applicable laws relating to modern slavery and human trafficking and to ensure that any organisations in their own supply chains do the same. If a supplier fails to meet these expectations or refuses reasonable requests for information and cooperation, we reserve the right to review, restrict, or terminate the relationship.
Training, Awareness, and Responsibilities
Responsibility for overseeing our modern slavery commitments sits with the senior management team of Man with Van Barkingside. Managers are responsible for communicating our zero-tolerance approach to staff and relevant third parties, and for ensuring that any concerns raised are taken seriously and acted upon promptly.
We promote awareness of modern slavery indicators among staff who are involved in recruitment, supplier management, and day-to-day operations. Staff are encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly when working with temporary labour providers, subcontracted drivers, or new suppliers where visibility of employment practices may be limited.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
All employees, suppliers, and third parties are encouraged to report any suspicion or concern relating to modern slavery or human trafficking connected to Man with Van Barkingside. Concerns can be raised directly with a line manager, a senior manager, or through any internal reporting mechanism made available within the business. Reports may be made confidentially, and we will not tolerate any form of retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith.
Every report will be taken seriously, investigated where appropriate, and addressed with suitable remedial action. Where we consider it necessary, we will cooperate with law enforcement or other competent authorities.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility and that our approach must evolve with changes in our business and the wider regulatory environment. We are committed to reviewing our policies, supplier due diligence, and training materials regularly to identify opportunities for improvement.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement will be reviewed at least once every twelve months by senior management to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with best practice and legal requirements. Any significant changes in our operations or risk profile will trigger an earlier review if needed. Following each review, we will update our processes and communicate any material changes to relevant staff and suppliers.
This statement reflects the position of Man with Van Barkingside for the current financial year and has been approved by the senior management team.
